ACT and MetaMetrics Announce New Agreement to Link Lexile and Quantile Measures to the ACT and PreACT Tests

Measures will help students navigate paths to college and career readiness

DURHAM, N.C. April 8, 2019 – ACT, the nonprofit organization that is a leader in learning, measurement and navigation programs worldwide, and MetaMetrics today announced that the ACT® and PreACT® will be linked to the Lexile Framework® for Reading and the Quantile Framework® for Mathematics, beginning with the spring 2020 test administration.

The Lexile and Quantile Frameworks place both the student and instructional material on the same scale to match the learner with reading and math resources at each student’s ability level. When students receive Lexile and Quantile measures from an assessment, their test scores become more actionable, allowing assessment to be linked to instruction and help students map a path to college and careers.

“ACT is committed to helping students improve their readiness for college and career success,” said ACT Chief Commercial Officer Suzana Delanghe. “Linking the ACT and PreACT to Lexile and Quantile measures will help assist students as they navigate those important paths through high school and beyond and also help support the educators who work with those students.”

ACT scores measure what students have learned throughout their educational career and provide colleges and universities with critical information for effective decisions regarding admission, advising, course placement and retention. In the 2018 US high school graduating class, more than 1.9 million students took the ACT.

PreACT, introduced in 2016, is a 10th-grade multiple choice assessment designed to model the ACT test experience, while providing preparation and practice for future ACT test takers. Scores provide students and educators with students’ predicted performance on the ACT and help inform high school course decisions. PreACT reporting includes both academic and career indicators, which are designed to identify strengths and areas for improvement, providing a complete view of students’ college and career readiness.

“MetaMetrics is proud to partner with ACT to link its widely respected tests to Lexile and Quantile measures,” said Malbert Smith, CEO and co-founder of MetaMetrics. “Putting our measures in the hands of teachers, parents and students provides a valuable tool for connecting assessment to instruction.”
