MetaMetrics Partners With BiblioNasium to Offer Lexile® Measures

New Online Social Media Platform to Offer Lexile Measures to Its Users

Durham, North Carolina — June 6, 2012 — MetaMetrics®, developer of The Lexile® Framework for Reading, today announced its support for BiblioNasium’s new online social media platform. BiblioNasium™, Where Kids Flex their Reading Muscles, utilizes Lexile® measures in its recently launched pilot virtual reading village for young learners.

Partnering with BiblioNasium, MetaMetrics’ widely adopted Lexile Framework for Reading will reach a new audience. By integrating Lexile measures into their online platform, BiblioNasium allows its users to search for tens of thousands of children’s books based on the book’s Lexile measure (reading level). Knowing the Lexile measure of a book helps users to best select books for their reading ability. Reading within one’s Lexile range (100L below to 50L above his or her Lexile measure) is recommended.

“The real power of Lexile measures is that they provide BiblioNasium users with important information about a book’s text complexity that helps them pick appropriately challenging titles to read, as well as make recommendations for others” said MetaMetrics President and co-founder Malbert Smith III, Ph.D. “We applaud our partner, BiblioNasium, for recognizing and appreciating the unique value that Lexile measures offer in their efforts to make children better readers.”

A safe and secure social networking platform, BiblioNasium targets children ages 6 to 12 years old and connects them with their peers, teachers and parents. These three communities influence young learners, and BiblioNasium aims to bring them together on a shared social media platform to benefit the reader and improve their reading ability.

“At BiblioNasium we believe all kids can fall in love with reading, and the right book and the right coaching can spark a lifetime passion,” notes BiblioNasium Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Marjan Ghara. “In recognizing the value of social interaction, we have created a platform similar to ‘Goodreads’ and ‘LibraryThing’ but for young children that is tailored to support the development of their independent reading skills.”

BiblioNasium announced the launch of its pilot virtual reading village on May 30, 2012. Featuring a user-friendly interface that is intuitive for its young users, this secure reading village unites social media and learning to benefit the reader. Children can catalogue, share and exchange book recommendations with their friends, teachers and parents. Teachers and parents can monitor and assess their students’ and children’s reading progress with the tools BiblioNasium offers.

The Lexile Framework is a unique tool for accurately matching readers with text. Recognized as the most widely used reading metric, the Lexile Framework is based on more than 20 years of research funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development. Their distinct approach to measuring readers and texts has resulted in Lexile adoptions by departments of education in nearly half the states and school districts in all 50 U.S. states, and a global reach that continues to expand.
