Lexile Research & Publications
The Most Researched Reading Measure in the World.
MetaMetrics® is continuing to transform the world of educational policy and practice through continued research and reporting.
The Lexile® Framework for Reading was born from a vision of our founders more than 30 years ago. A. Jackson Stenner, Ph.D. and Malbert Smith, Ph.D. wanted to make test scores more actionable by blurring the distinction between assessment and instruction.
Leaders at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) supported our founders in their mission by funding MetaMetrics with a series of grants over the course of a decade. Their work resulted in MetaMetrics’ flagship measurement, the Lexile Framework for Reading.

The Lexile Framework & Education Policy
Since then, we’ve continued to explore the relationships between learning, education policy, measurement and instruction. Our MetaMetrics frameworks, including the Lexile Framework for Reading, have been externally validated by hundreds of studies in 25 U.S. states and 24 countries.
MetaMetrics’ policy briefs explore topics such as how to bridge the readiness gap, achieve mathematics success for college and careers and communicating success to parents and other stakeholders.
