Lexile and Quantile Growth Planner Tool Helps Students Prepare for the Future

Reading and Math Forecasting Tool Supports College and Career Readiness

MetaMetrics, Inc. today launched the newly improved Lexile Growth Planner and Quantile Growth Planner. The updated online tool, in a free-to-use version, offers new features, greater functionality and a more personalized view to further prepare students for college and careers. With the Growth Planner, students, educators and parents now can forecast student reading and math growth starting at 3rd grade and compare that forecasted performance to the text and mathematical demands of college and careers.

The Growth Planner forecasts a student’s growth using Lexile and Quantile measures, determines if the student is on track to be college- and career-ready and shows how the student compares to other students across the nation. If the student is projected to fall short of graduating college- and career-ready, the Growth Planner can identify the recommended growth path to close the gap between where they are and where they need to be. The Growth Planner also includes resources to encourage and promote reading and math growth to meet the desired goals.

As the developer of the widely adopted Lexile® Framework for Reading and Quantile® Framework for Mathematics, MetaMetrics provides the Growth Planner as a way to apply a universal metric to forecast and monitor growth toward key milestones. Students receive Lexile and Quantile measures from a variety of K-12 assessments. Lexile measures range from below 0L for beginning readers to above 2000L, with around 1300L being college- and career-ready. Quantile measures range from below 0Q for emerging mathematicians to above 1600Q, with around 1350Q being college-and career-ready.

Another added Growth Planner feature provides career planning support and is available in states reporting out Lexile and Quantile measures on statewide annual tests. With this career planning feature, students, educators and parents can explore hundreds of careers, including educational requirements, salary ranges and job demand. These careers have been aligned to the text complexity and the mathematical demands of the postsecondary experience. Lexile and Quantile measures are the only metrics available to determine the reading and math level required for a specific occupation.

“We are thrilled to offer a tool that incorporates labor-market data and can be used by educators, parents and students to inform decision making — and inspire,” says Malbert Smith, CEO, president and co-founder of MetaMetrics. “With these enhancements, more educators will be able to support guidance counselors and equip students with the best data and tools to help make their dreams a reality.”
