Mrs Wordsmith and MetaMetrics Team Up to Teach New Vocabulary Words to Every Child, Every Day

Lexile WordBank will support new #epicwordaday Instagram channel from Mrs Wordsmith

DURHAM, N.C. & LONDON  October 30, 2019  – Building a strong vocabulary is key to developing overall literacy skills. Yet, research shows that left to read by themselves, the average child only “works out” the meanings of 15 percent of the unfamiliar words they encounter. Learning a few words frequently has been shown to improve vocabulary development by up to 90 percent. That’s why Mrs Wordsmith, the word learning experts, and

MetaMetrics®, developer of the Lexile Framework® for Reading, are partnering to teach new words to every child, every day with the #epicwordaday Instagram channel.

Mrs Wordsmith will leverage the Lexile® WordBank to post new words each day on its #epicwordaday Instagram channel, curating the words by curriculum and lifestyle categories, including #SAT words, #creativewriting, #inspirational and #STEAM. All of the words will be illustrated on photos from Getty Images.

“Words are life-changing. They impact your reading age, your connections with people and your chances of success in most areas of life. Count on Mrs Wordsmith, Lexile and Getty Images to bring children everywhere, the world in words,” said Sofia Fenichell, CEO and writer at Mrs Wordsmith. “It is exciting to partner with literacy leader MetaMetrics to have our data teams work together to create a unique and proprietary tool. Together with teachers and parents, we can achieve our goal of ensuring that every child learns a new word, every day.”

The Lexile WordBank includes approximately 50,000 words from the top K-12 textbook programs, all published since 2011. The WordBank contains recent and relevant vocabulary, unlike other databases available today that were developed from out-of-date resources or texts intended for adults. The vocabulary in the WordBank spans the K-12 curriculum, including words from science, math, social studies and general vocabulary words, and is searchable by grade level and domain.

“For more than 35 years, Lexile measures have helped teachers, parents and students find ‘just right’ books for students based on their reading level. Our most recent research now helps determine ‘just right’ vocabulary words for students to learn,” said Malbert Smith, CEO and co-founder, MetaMetrics. “It is great to collaborate with the team of vocabulary experts at Mrs Wordsmith to deliver new vocabulary words to teachers and students every day through its creative Instagram campaign.”

Everyone can be part of the free #epicwordaday Instagram channel simply by following @mrswordsmithofficial today.

Mrs Wordsmith is also recruiting teachers to be part of its groundbreaking teacher ambassador campaign.
