MetaMetrics and CCSSO Announce Free Resources for Families

Lexile® and Quantile® Tools Support Remote Learning During COVID-19 and the Summer

DURHAM, N.C. — APRIL 29, 2020 — Students’ access to learning opportunities through the summer months is particularly critical this year. To promote learning during this unprecedented time and stem summer learning loss, MetaMetrics® today announced with the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) that it is offering free premium access to top parent tools that support remote student learning. MetaMetrics supports the national, state-led summer learning initiative designed to raise awareness of summer loss and provide access to free resources to support reading and math learning.

“Opportunities to continue learning are important. We want all students to have access to materials that can keep their reading and math skills sharp and keep achievement gaps from widening, especially for low-income students and students of color. CCSSO is pleased to work with MetaMetrics to help states address summer learning,” said Carissa Moffat Miller, executive director, CCSSO.

Fighting summer learning loss has long been a focus for MetaMetrics. The company’s co-founder, CEO and president Malbert Smith serves on the board of the National Summer Learning Association.

“Clearly missing months of school is going to have an impact on students. Vulnerable children from low-income families will most likely be more greatly affected,” said Smith. “At MetaMetrics, we are committed to providing states, parents and students with access to tools and resources that will keep students learning during the summer and on track to graduate from high school and be successful in college and careers.”

Due to summer learning challenges around the country brought by the coronavirus pandemic, MetaMetrics is offering free premium access to top parent tools that support remote student learning. The tools can be used regardless of if students have Lexile® (reading) and Quantile® (math) measures. A few of the tools available at Hub.Lexile.com are Lexile® Find a Book, Quantile® Summer Math Challenge and Quantile® Math@Home.

Find a Book, a book search tool, helps to match a student’s reading ability and personal interests with book search results that are just right. Students, educators and parents can build a custom bookshelf, discover challenging vocabulary in books and check book availability at the local library or Amazon. Find a Book includes hundreds of thousands of fiction and nonfiction titles for students of all ages K-12, and new titles are added every day.

The Summer Math Challenge is a six-week online math program for students who have completed grades 1-8. Students can access math learning activities on weekly topics that are aligned with state math standards and practice according to their grade and ability level. Resources are from the most trusted content developers like Khan Academy, ABCya, IXL Learning and more. Students stay motivated through fun games and videos, real-time feedback, earning weekly badges and printing a certificate upon program completion.

The Math@Home tool allows parents and students to access free math resources that are tailored to a student’s individual state, grade, math topic and Quantile measure or math level. Resources include activities, online games, tutorial videos and worksheets.
