SC Ready Now Reports Student Reading and Mathematics Performance in Lexile and Quantile Measures

DURHAM, NC (PRWEB) —MetaMetrics®, developer of the widely adopted Lexile® Framework for Reading and Quantile® Framework for Mathematics, today announced their partnership with the South Carolina Department of Education. Through this partnership, students in grades 3-8 receive both Lexile® and Quantile® measures from the South Carolina College-and-Career- Ready Assessments (SC Ready). Students also receive Lexile measures from the English 1 assessment and Quantile measures from the Algebra 1 assessment as part of the End-of-Course Examination Program. By receiving Lexile and Quantile measures on their SC Ready score reports, students can access a wealth of free, web-based tools to help find ability- appropriate materials, including Math@Home and the popular “Find a Book” search tool.

“I applaud South Carolina’s dedication to improving education by bringing meaning to measurement,” stated Malbert Smith III, Ph.D., CEO, president and co-founder of MetaMetrics. “By delivering universal metrics to connect students with materials that match their unique abilities, Superintendent Spearman and her team are helping accelerate reading and mathematics growth of the students throughout their state.”

The SC Ready student reports will also feature Lexile and Quantile resources for parents to monitor growth towards college and career readiness. South Carolina will be rolling out the Lexile and Quantile Growth Planners, a new tool to determine if a student is on track to graduate college- and career-ready. Students and parents across the state will be able to forecast future reading and mathematics growth and compare that to the demands of college and careers. The tool offers Lexile and Quantile measures for the reading and mathematical demands of hundreds of high-growth careers. If needed, students and parents will receive a custom growth path to ensure the student graduates college- and career-ready.

“It is critical that we empower students, parents, and teachers with information that can be used to improve academic achievement,” said South Carolina Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman. “By providing Lexile and Quantile measures we are able to personalize learning for every child and ensure they graduate prepared for success.”

The Lexile and Quantile Frameworks place both the student and instructional material on the same scale to match the learner with math and reading resources at each student’s ability level. A scientific approach to reading measurement, the Lexile Framework for Reading matches readers to text. The Lexile Framework involves a scale for measuring both the reading ability of an individual and the text complexity of materials he or she encounters. Similar to the Lexile Framework, the Quantile Framework matches students with instructional materials by measuring the mathematical ability of a student and the complexity of mathematical skills and concepts on the same developmental scale.
