About Lexile® Measures for Reading
The Lexile® Framework for Reading is a scientific approach to measuring both reading ability and the text complexity of reading materials on the same developmental scale.
Your child receives a Lexile reader measure from a test at school. This could be from a school test or a state standardized test. If you don’t know your child’s Lexile reader measure, ask the teacher.
More than 100 million books, articles and websites have received Lexile text measures. Reading materials get a measure based on factors like their vocabulary and complexity.
Key to Success: Using Student Lexile Reading Measures and Text Measures Together
The Lexile Framework for Reading is different from any other reading score your child gets because you can use it to engage your child in reading materials that help accelerate their skills. Students and parents should look for reading materials with a reading comprehension “sweet spot” of 100L below to 50L above their reported Lexile measure. Reading materials in this range will provide an ideal level of challenge while maintaining comprehension.
