Here at MetaMetrics®, we have 90 incredible team members, from engineers to product managers to marketing specialists. In our series, Staff Spotlight, we’d like to introduce and celebrate several of our outstanding staff members.
With a long and successful career in the education industry, Mike Crepeau recently joined MetaMetrics as Senior Vice President for Corporate Sales and Customer Success. Meet Mike and learn a little bit more about the person behind the wonderful tools you know and love.
Q: You just joined Metametrics a couple months ago. Can you share your role and responsibilities?
A: My role is Senior Vice President for Corporate Sales and Customer Success. I work with a terrific team to lead our sales and growth strategy with current and new US-based education tech companies. I also lead our customer success initiatives to ensure we’re continually providing value to our partners and expanding business together.
Q: What’s a typical day like in your role?
A: Zoom, Zoom, Zoom. It’s unique to start a new position during a pandemic with everyone working remotely. However, both our MetaMetrics team and partners made the transition easy. Every day brings a diverse set of topics, discussions, and negotiations to tackle. On any given day, I spend time working with our sales, marketing, R&D and product teams working through issues and strategy, as well as meeting with prospects and current customers to help grow our business. I look forward to getting to Durham soon to meet the team and check out the new office!
Q: What type of work did you do before coming to MetaMetrics?
A: I’ve spent 25+ years in the education industry, during which time I’ve worked with WestEd, ETS, Pearson, and most recently Analytic Measures. I’m proud of my work with these organizations and the diversity of roles and experiences I’ve had over time: assessment development, communications/public affairs/government relations, business development, sales, general management. I’ve had the good fortune to work with colleagues who share a commitment to improving education and helping learners succeed. And, I now have the added benefit of working with many of them as partners of MetaMetrics!
Q: What about the MetaMetrics mission inspires you?
A: The simple fact that our company strives to improve the skills and lives of students across the globe every day. This boths excites and inspires me.
Q: Can you share an initiative you’re excited about?
A: Launching our new products and frameworks–Oral Reading, Listening, and PreK-2–is exciting. Each offers great potential to help shape and improve the range of literacy skills, which are critical to success for lifelong learning. I look forward to working with our partners to bring these offerings to market.
Q: What’s your “superpower”?
A: I’d like to think it’s being a good Dad to my three kids. But, they keep me honest and remind me that it’s a work in progress. I’m forever striving to improve in this most important role.
Q: What qualities do you appreciate in colleagues?
A: Initiative, honesty, accountability, empathy, and humility.
Q: What’s the best book you read in the last year?
A: The Nickel Boys by Colson Whitehead. It’s a compelling story that tackles challenging topics and times.
Q: Who’s been the biggest influence in your professional life?
A: This is a tough one–there have (and will be) many! Some of my most important mentors include George Miller, Les Francis, Anne Parmley, Doug Kubach, and Sylvia Barter (my grandmother who was a WASP in WWII). They are really decent people who care deeply about the work they do and how they do it. They also exemplify the qualities I mentioned above.
Q: What does working at MetaMetrics mean to you?
A: It’s a special place! I joined MetaMetrics mainly because of the people, brand and reputation, and the mission-critical work that is squarely in focus for the team. Three months in, it has exceeded my expectations. I’m very proud to work here. I know we are making a positive difference with educators and students alike.
