Lexile Titles Database Now Includes More Than 470,000 Measures

Database grows by nearly 50 percent with plans for future growth

DURHAM, N.C.  April 21, 2020 – Over the past decade, the publishing world has changed to include more e-book, paperback and trade titles. Today MetaMetrics®, developer of the Lexile Framework® for Reading, announced the Lexile® Titles Database is updated to reflect those changes, now including measures for more than 470,000 hardcover, e-books, paperback, trade and other formats, with plans for future expansion.

Lexile® measures are assigned by ISBN (International Standard Book Number), the 10 or 13-digit number which identifies a specific book, an edition of a book, or a book-like product. The Lexile Titles Database contains Lexile® measures for English and Spanish ISBNs from more than 600 publishers. ISBNs in the database are integrated into products and services from publishers and education companies, such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Renaissance and Scholastic.

“Renaissance relies on the Lexile Titles Database to provide Accelerated Reader and myON districts with the critical Lexile level information our teachers and partners need to guide book recommendations for students based on the right reading level,” said Todd Brekhus, Chief Product Officer, Renaissance Learning. “The increased number of titles in this critical database adds value for our customers and helps Renaissance with our mission of Accelerating Learning for All.”

Library catalog automation companies, online booksellers, publishers and distributors, edtech companies and software application developers license the Lexile Titles Database to incorporate Lexile measures into their products and services. The database provides the ability to populate book data, library records, websites and catalogs with Lexile measures for specific titles.

“By growing the Lexile Titles Database with additional formats, such as e-books, we are giving parents, teachers and students even more opportunities to match readers with just the right book at just the right level,” said Malbert Smith, CEO and co-founder, MetaMetrics. “We are proud to partner with the publishers and education companies who have made this growth possible and look forward to continuing to expand the database.”

The new Lexile Titles Database ISBNs are included in the Lexile Find a Book tool in the Lexile & Quantile HubWith Find a Book, teachers, parents and students can find just the right book based on a student’s Lexile level and interests. Lexile measures are the world’s most widely used reading metric.
